Mom vs. Eczema

Eczema tends to run in families. I have always had sensitive skin and my oldest daughter seems to have inherited this legacy. My oldest daughter always had a mild case of cradle cap, which is a form of eczema. It never seemed to bother her much and I always assumed that it would run it's baby course and disappear. Instead the older she got the more it seemed to irritate her and finally she began to have small patches show up behind her ears.

Around this time my husband and I began to be really interested in alternative medicine, natural medicine, basically we really began to question whether pharmaceutical companies were acting in our best interest when they recommended their drugs to solve our medical woes. We began to be more conscientious of what we put into our bodies as well as what we put on them. We switched our kids to a Burt's Baby Bee shampoo/body wash product. (Clorox recently bought the company out and we are holding our breathes to see what becomes of the product)

Almost immediately (within a week) my daughter stopped scratching and behind her ears cleared up. Eventually her scalp cleared up completely and the eczema has been gone for well over a year. Also worth noting is that we did try another natural shampoo (Jason's) that was similar and the eczema did come back after a while. I don't know if it's something they put in the Burt's Bees formula or something they leave out. By the by I am not paid or compensated in anyway to endorse Burt's Bees products. I just felt very strongly that other parents searching for healthy ways to help their little ones might benefit from our experience.

I will also mention that the Burt's Baby Bee shampoo is really thick and somewhat hard to rinse out. I ended up purchasing the adults Burt's Bees conditioner and I just mix a bit with the shampoo in my hand before I wash the kiddos' hair and it rinses out like a dream.
